The Malaysia Berjanji Spoken Word Theatre takes us through various Malaysiana storylines, with the 18-Point Agreement between East and West Malaysia as its narrative anchor. This devised ensemble spoken wordplay is a follow-up response to the questions posed by its sister production JALIN, staged at the What About Kuching (WAK) Festival in October 2019.
Malaysia Berjanji hopes to spark a dialogue about affirmative action on Semenanjung-Borneo relations in the public sphere. The spoken word theatre is accompanied by a visual exhibition that brings together the East and the West, by featuring works of literary and contemporary arts by creators from both Semenanjung and Borneo. The stunning pieces aim to explore the nuances in the Semenanjung-Borneo relationship, and contextualise the questions and realisations that Malaysia Berjanji will inevitably raise.
